In my last blog post I explored reasons for limiting oneself to taking only one shot. Although I was satisfied with the first shot of the rain chain, I went on to take a few additional photographs that did not measure up as well to the first.
Although I did not adhere to taking only one photograph, the exercise encouraged greater concentration and probably resulted in fewer shots overall.
It takes some getting use to. It helps if I imagine that I do have a roll of film where I’m maxed out to 24 exposures. And being in a garden, it also helped when I treated the environment as if I was in Times Square where the action is so fluid that I’m often not getting more than one opportunity to photograph a scene.
It took some discipline, but I managed to create this image with my first and only shot.
