Xiomáro Fotografía (see-oh-MAH-ro) began with my interest in the arts. In college, I studied art history, painting, drawing, and literature. Later, I turned my attention to writing and arranging music, which I performed in public and recorded in my studio.
This background was essential in the two decades I spent as an entertainment industry professional. I advised both celebrities and newcomers about image development, designed graphics and websites and conducted marketing and promotional campaigns based on concepts I created. During that time, I taught these subjects at seminars and industry conferences.
My skills were sharpened by frequent contact with the industry’s top photographers, fashion designers and hair and make-up specialists. It was a great experience, for example, to observe photographer Ellen von Unwerth, who is well known for her Guess? Jeans advertising campaign with models Claudia Schiffer and Anna Nicole. Ellen photographed one of my clients on location in ordinary surroundings. But the results that were published in the magazine spread were extraordinary.
The ability to create that transformation was intriguing and moved me behind the camera. A body of artistic work soon followed that included portraits, landscapes, digital collages, bodyscapes and abstracts. Many of these photos were regularly exhibited and sold at my coffeehouse concerts throughout the Northeastern region.
